US sharemarkets recorded modest gains in late trade on Wednesday, following the stellar gains in the prior session. Six of the major 10 S&P sectors were lower. Shares of the world’s largest seed maker Monsanto was the biggest drag on the S&P 500, losing 7.9% after slashing it 2016 profit forecast, citing tougher conditions in the farm sector. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones was up by 33 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index rose 0.4%, while the Nasdaq was higher by 14 points or 0.4%.

US sharemarkets rallied on Tuesday, led by financial and technology stocks. The upbeat economic data supported sentiment. Morgan Stanley rose by 5.4% while Citigroup up 6.7%. The S&P Financial sector lifted by 3.5% but was still down around 9% over the year. Nine of the 10 major S&P sectors were higher. The automotive sector received a boost following US car sales lifting to 15-year highs in February. Fiat rose 7% while Ford gained 4.4%. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones was up by 349 points or 2.1%. The S&P 500 index rose 2.4%, while the Nasdaq was higher by 132 points or 2.9%.
