US sharemarkets rose on Friday. A sharp lift in the oil price supported energy producers. And investors were comforted by soothing comments by the Federal Reserve chair that the US economy was on "a solid course". The Dow Jones lifted by 35 points or 0.2% with the S&P 500 index up by 0.3% while the Nasdaq rose by almost 2.3 points or 0.1%. Over the week the Dow and S&P 500 index fell by 1.2% and the Nasdaq advanced by 1.3%.
