US sharemarkets rose again on Wednesday, led by the banking and energy sectors. The S&P financials index rose by 1.1%. But shares in Alibaba fell 6.8% after it said that it was being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission for accounting irregularities. After being up 182 points, the Dow Jones ended higher by 145 points or 0.8%. The S&P 500 index lifted by 0.7% while the Nasdaq gained 34 points or 0.7%.

US sharemarkets rose on Tuesday, led by banks, homebuilders and technology stocks. Homebuilders gained on the back of higher new home sales. And luxury homebuilder Toll Brothers rose by 8.7% after it reported revenue figures that beat expectations. Shares in Microsoft rose by 3.1%. The Dow Jones rose by 213 points or 1.2% after being up 262 points. The S&P 500 index lifted by 1.4% while the Nasdaq gained 95 points or 2.0%.

US sharemarkets ended slightly lower on Monday. Six of the 10 S&P 500 sectors rose with the materials sector doing best. Shares in Apple rose by 1.3% on reports the company have asked its manufacturers to lift iPhone production. Shares in Monsanto rose by 4.4% after it received the $62 billion takeover offer from Bayer. After tracking in a 70 point range, the Dow Jones ended down by 8 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index eased by 0.2% while the Nasdaq gained lost 4 points or 0.1%.
