 US sharemarkets were mixed on Tuesday. Shares in Netflix fell by 13.1% after disappointing with its latest subscriber numbers in results released after the bell on Monday. And shares in Goldman Sachs lost 1.2% after issuing its quarterly results. The Dow Jones index held in a 58 point range and ended higher by almost 26 points or 0.1% to fresh record highs. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.1% from record highs while the Nasdaq lost 19 points or 0.4%.

The Commonwealth Bank Business Sales Indicator (BSI) – a measure of economy-wide spending – rose slightly in June. Strength in clothing stores was offset by weaker spending across Government and Amusement & Entertainment.

The local sharemarket has finished a touch lower, ending an eight session rally as banks and miners were sold off.

 US sharemarkets closed higher on Monday with the Dow Jones and S&P 500 closing at fresh record highs. Upbeat second quarter earnings by Bank of America (up 3.3%) supported gains across  financial stocks. The S&P financial sector rose 0.4%. The semiconductor index rose 1.6% and is holding near 13-month highs following the M&A deal by Japan's SoftBank to buy British chip designer ARM . The Dow Jones index rose to fresh record highs up by almost 17 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index rose 0.2%, while the Nasdaq gained 26 points or 0.5%.

The local share market is climbing higher again on Monday, with the ASX 200 trading around 5,450 points.

US sharemarkets were mixed on Friday, although the Dow Jones managed to close at a fresh record high. Consumer stocks led the declines. Wells Fargo was the biggest drag on the S&P 500, losing 2.5% after weaker second quarter earnings. The Dow Jones index rose to fresh record highs up by 10 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index fell 0.1%, while the Nasdaq lost 4 points or 0.1%. For the week the Dow Jones rose 2%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both gained 1.5%.
