US sharemarkets were higher on Tuesday with gains in healthcare offsetting losses in the energy sector. Shares in UnitedHealth Group, the largest US health insurer, rose 3.6% after the company announced a better-than-expected earnings forecast.

Falls in the Telco and Materials sectors weighed on the market on Tuesday. The ASX 200 slipped 7 points or 0.10% to 5,457.

The ASX 200 is up 0.1%, boosted by gains in the financial and materials sectors. Telcos & consumer staples are weaker.

US sharemarkets fell on Monday as investors locked in recent gains. Financial and discretionary stocks led the weakness. Six of the major 11 S&P sectors were weaker. The S&P financial sector lost 0.9%, with Wells Fargo (-2.1%) and Bank of America (-2.6%) leading the declines. Energy stocks rebounded after early losses following the oil price higher in late trade. At the close of US trade the Dow Jones index was lower 54 points or 0.3% with the S&P 500 index down by 0.5% while the Nasdaq lost 30 points or 0.6%.

After falls in Asia and Europe the U.S. markets started weaker. A real switch occurring as the indices fall from record highs. Money into utilities and tech stocks while the banks and insurers have fallen and the gas and oil companies are also down.

The Australian share market has eased from three month highs, hurt by heavy falls in the energy sector.
