US sharemarkets rallied with the Dow rising 92 points or 0.5 per cent. The S&P 500 index was higher by 0.4%, while the Nasdaq rose by 26 points or 0.5%.

The ASX 200 has finished stronger for a second straight session. After briefly trading above 5,600 points for the first time since 1 August, the ASX 200 finished up 29 points or 0.5% to 5,591.

The Commonwealth Bank Business Sales Indicator (BSI) rose by 1.2 per cent in November after an upwardly revised 1.1 per cent lift in October. Spending is now expanding at the fastest pace in 7½-years.

The local share market is up 0.7%, boosted by firm gains in the industrials, utilities & telco sectors. Concerns Australia could lose its AAA credit rating eased after Fitch said the Mid Year Economic & Fiscal Outlook is still consistent with AAA.

US sharemarkets fell on Friday with investors locking in some of the recent gains. Reports that a Chinese warship seized a US underwater drone in international waters in the South China Sea gave investors a reason to shift into defensive sectors. Utilities and real estate were the best performing sectors. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was lower by almost 9 points. The S&P 500 index was down by 0.2%, while the Nasdaq fell by 20 points or 0.4%. For the week the Dow Jones rose by 0.4%, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq both lost 0.1%.
