Qantas has reported a statutory profit after tax of $515 million which included $137 million of costs. The costs comprised of redundancies, restructuring and other costs related to its transformation program.

US sharemarkets were mixed on Wednesday, although the Dow Jones index hit an intra-day record high. DuPont shares surged by 3.2% after news it was set to win antitrust approval from EU regulators for its $130 billion merger with Dow Chemical (+4%). Five of the major 11 S&P sectors were higher. However the energy sector (-1.46) led the weakness, following the oil price lower. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index was up by 33 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.1% while the Nasdaq was also lower by 5 points or 0.1%.
