US sharemarkets ended mixed on Friday. Retailers responded to news of Amazon.com's $13.7 billion deal to buy upscale grocer Whole Foods. Shares in Amazon rose by 2.4% and Whole Foods rose by 29.1%. The Dow Jones ended higher by 24 points or 0.1% after trading in a 76-point range. The S&P 500 index rose by less than 0.1% and the Nasdaq lost almost 14 points or 0.2%. Over the week the Dow rose by 0.5%, the S&P 500 rose 0.1%, and the Nasdaq lost 0.9%.

US sharemarkets fell in line with European markets on Thursday. Technology and energy were the weakest sectors and a firmer greenback weighed on exporters. The Dow Jones ended lower by 15 points or 0.1% after being down 113 points at one stage. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.2% and the Nasdaq lost 29 points or 0.5%.
