Investors assessed the latest geo-political developments ahead of this week's US Federal Reserve meeting. Shares of Chevron (-2.5%) and Devon Energy (-10.2%) slid as oil prices plunged. Tesla (-3.6%) and Alphabet (-3.0%) shares dropped as US treasury yields jumped. Apple shares slid 2.7% as its supplier Foxconn halted operations due to a lockdown in Shenzhen, China. But shares of American Express (+2.9%) and Visa (+1.8%) both rose. The Dow Jones index closed up by just 1 point or less than 0.1% after being up 451 points earlier in the session. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.7% and the Nasdaq index shed 263 points or 2.0%.
