Aussie shares ended lower for the first time since last Thursday with the ASX 200 dropping 18 points or 0.25% to 7,512. Mining, IT & consumer staples weighed most while financials lead the improvements. Macquarie Group (MQG) hit a record high on an investor update.

The Aussie market has again opened lower but is attempting a slight revival around lunch. The ASX 200 is down 24 points or 0.3% approaching midday with selling across most sectors. Macquarie Group (MQG) is a positive though on its investor update and 1H22 guidance.

US and European stocks generally trended lower over the course of the session overnight as investors considered the prospect of moderating growth as long term interest rates edged higher. The Dow Jones index fell by 269 points or 0.8%. The S&P 500 index lost 0.3%. But the Nasdaq index rose by 11 points or 0.1% to a record high.

The Aussie market managed to rally late to finish flat for the day. The ASX 200 added just 1.8pts to 7,530 with miners weighing on the market. Local shares did lift following the RBA’s decision to keep rates on hold and also maintain its decision to begin tapering its bond buying program this month.

Last Friday, the Dow Jones index fell by 75 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index lost 1.5 points or less than 0.1%. But the Nasdaq index rose by 32 points or 0.2% to a record high. Over the week, the Dow fell by 0.2%, the S&P 500 rose by 0.6% and the Nasdaq gained 1.6%.
