An inflation-fuelled spike in US bond yields raised fears over technology valuations, causing investors to sell growth-focused companies. Shares of Tesla (-6.9%), Apple (-3.4%), Alphabet (-2.9%), Microsoft (-2.7%) and Facebook (-1.9%) all dropped. Dollar General shares slid 4.7% after the retailer provided disappointing sales and profit guidance. Chevron shares fell 3.6% as oil prices plunged. Bank stocks outperformed with shares of JPMorgan (+1.7%) and Goldman Sachs (+0.9%) both higher. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index fell by 153 points or 0.5% after hitting intraday record highs earlier in the session. The S&P 500 index lost 1.5% and the Nasdaq index dropped by 409 points or 3.0%.

The Aussie market has faltered for a second day in a row with the dovish stance by the US Fed & surprise boost in local employment unable to give the ASX 200 a rise. The index fell 49 points or 0.73% to 6,746 as financials & healthcare weighed most.

US stocks erased earlier losses after the US central bank signalled that it will hold off on rate hikes through to 2023. Shares of Dow (+4.5%), Boeing (+3.3%) and Caterpillar (+3.2%) led gains. Amazon shares rose by 1.4% and shares of McDonald's gained 1.9% after Deutsche Bank upgraded its stock recommendation to "buy" from "hold." The Dow Jones index rose by 189 points or 0.6% to above 33,000 points for the first time. The S&P 500 index lifted 0.3% -also a record closing high. And the Nasdaq index gained 54 points or 0.4%.

Investors eyed the upcoming policy decision from the US Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 index fell after setting an intraday record high earlier in the session. The Dow Jones index was dragged down by shares of Boeing (-3.9%) and American Express (-2.5%). Ford shares dropped 5.4% after announcing a US$2 billion convertible debt deal. But the tech-heavy Nasdaq index was supported by shares of Apple (+1.3%) and Alphabet (+1.4%). The Dow Jones index closed down by 127.5 points or 0.4%. The S&P 500 index was lower by 0.2%. But the Nasdaq index gained almost 12 points or 0.1%.
