The ASX 200 snapped back to back losses to end last week with a gain of 29 points or 0.434%. At one stage, the index was more than 100 points higher but faded throughout the afternoon. Banks, miners and staples performed best while technology & BNPL stocks weighed.

The Aussie market is roaring higher to start the new week with the ASX 200 surging 115 points or 1.7% to 6,825 which follows a strong finish for US markets where indices rose close to 2% on better than expected jobs growth. The US$1.9 trillion relief bill was also passed by the Senate on Saturday. Gains have been across the board as every sector advances. Leading the improvements are materials, IT and both consumer staples and discretionary.

US sharemarkets rebounded from lows in a volatile session on Friday. US bond yields eased from highs. And the better-than expected lift in jobs buoyed investor sentiment. Mega-tech stocks rose, led by a 2.2% lift in shares of Microsoft. The Dow Jones index lifted by 572 points or 1.9% after trading in a 814 point range. The S&P 500 index rose by 2.0% and the Nasdaq index rose by 197 points or 1.6%. Over the week the Dow rose by 1.8%; the S&P 500 rose by 0.8%; but the Nasdaq fell by 2.1%.

The US Fed chief failed to allay investor worries about rising bond yields. Technology shares led losses. But the energy sector lifted in response to higher oil prices. The Dow Jones index fell by 346 points or 1.1% after trading in a 914 point range. The S&P 500 index fell by 1.3% and the Nasdaq index lost 274 points or 2.1%.
