FMG’s full year result was broadly in-line with the average of analysts’ expectations. FMG delivered record revenue and underlying EBITDA which paved the way to a record NPAT of US$4.735 billion, together with earnings per share of 154 US cents – an increase of 49%.
Revenue was US$12.8 billion, 29% higher than the prior year, while underlying EBITDA of US$8.37 billion was 38% higher than FY19. FMG generated strong cashflows during the year, with net cash from operating activities increasing by 47% to US$6.4 billion. FMG will pay a final dividend of A$1.00 per share, fully franked. The ex-dividend date is 31 August 2020, and the dividend will be paid to shareholders on 2 October 2020.

Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are at record highs. Economic data encouraged investors. A 5.15% lift in shares in Apple drove markets higher. The Dow Jones index rose by 191 points or 0.7%. The S&P500 index lifted 0.3% to record highs. And the Nasdaq index gained 47 points or 0.4% to a record closing high. Over the week the Dow was flat; the S&P 500 rose 0.7% (fourth straight gain - longest winning streak this year) and the Nasdaq rose by 2.7%.

Shares fell early in the trading session on disappointing US economic data. But a rally in tech giants Apple (+2.2%), Tesla (+6.6%), Microsoft (+2.3%) and Amazon (+1.1%) boosted indexes. Intel (+1.7%) shares rose after announcing a US$10 billion share buyback plan. Shares of Zoom Video Communications (+6.3%) gained after Morgan Stanley lifted its price target. Uber (+6.8%) and Lyft (+5.8%) shares rose after they were spared from having to rapidly convert their California drivers to employees. And China confirmed trade talks with the US. The Dow Jones index rose by 46 points or 0.2%. The S&P500 index lifted 0.3%. And the Nasdaq index gained 118 points or 1.1% to a record closing high.
