The ASX 200 has made back most of Monday’s losses with the index gaining 47 points or 0.77% to 6,123. The health sector, particularly CSL Ltd (CSL) and Cochlear (COH) made the biggest difference with the two stocks alone adding 21 points to the ASX 200’s 47 point rally. Banks remained a weight while Treasury Wine Estate (TWE) slumped 14%.

BHP’s full year result was broadly in-line with the average of analyst’s expectations. NPAT fell 4% to just under US$8.0 billion, which includes one off losses totalling US$1.1 billion. Underlying earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell to US$22.07 billion, down from US$23.16 billion in the previous corresponding period (pcp). Unit costs were nine per cent lower across BHP’s major assets. BHP will pay a final dividend of 55 US cents per share, fully franked.

Cochlear’s (COH) full year revenue dropped 6% to $1.35 billion as underlying net profit after tax (NPAT) slumped 42% to $153.8 million. COH reported a net loss for the year of $238.3million as Covid-19 saw elective surgeries cancelled.

The Aussie market is holding onto slim gains at lunch with improvements for healthcare, materials and IT offsetting declines among the banks, staples and energy. Technology led the way. Shares in chipmaker Nvidia rose 6.7% after two analysts raised price targets on the stock. So-called 'stay at home stocks' continued to rise, including Amazon (up 1.1%). The Dow Jones index fell by 86 points or 0.3%. But the S&P500 index rose by 0.3%. And the Nasdaq index lifted 110 points or 1.0% to record highs.

The Aussie market has started the week in the red as banks weighed heavily on the ASX 200. The index fell 50 points or 0.8% to 6,076 with the big four contributing ~40% of the top 200 declines. Companies reporting profit results were also among the big movers with JB Hi-Fi (JBH) and Beach Energy (BPT) well supported on FY20 earnings.

Retailer, JB Hi-Fi (JBH) has reported solid improvements to total sales and earnings for the past year. Sales revenue lifted 11.6% to $7.9 billion with total online sales 48.8% higher at $597.5 million. Final dividend went from $0.51 to $0.90 in FY20.

Losses among the major lenders are weighing on the ASX 200 at lunch. The index is back below 6,100 with losses across the majority of sectors led by financials. It has been a relatively positive day on the reporting front with retailer JB Hi-Fi (JBH) leading gains for companies releasing profit results, but Kogan.com (KGN) is down quite sharply.
