The Aussie market has notched back-to-back gains for the first time in roughly five weeks with the ASX 200 advancing 29 points or 0.5% to 6,139. Banks were again a major driver for improvements while travel stocks also lifted. Mesoblast and gold stocks were among the worst performers.

The Aussie market is adding to Monday’s strong gains with the ASX 200 at the best levels in 2 months. It is another day of broad gains so far with financials leading improvements. Only the tech sector is in decline as all other sectors lift.

There are hopes that Congress can settle on a job relief package. On Saturday US President Donald Trump signed executive orders and memorandums aimed at unemployment benefits, evictions, student loans and payroll taxes until the more concrete stimulus bill could be passed. But technology stocks lagged on US-China tensions. The Dow Jones index rose by 358 points or 1.3%. The S&P500 index lifted 0.3%. But the Nasdaq index fell by 43 points or 0.4%.

There were some big gains for local shares to start the week with plenty of buying action. The ASX 200 managed to hit the best levels in 3 weeks as the index rallied 105 points or 1.8% to 6,110. Financial sled the charge higher with big gains for the big four banks.
