US sharemarkets improved on Friday to just shy of a record high following a bigger than expected lift in jobs growth and positive comments relating to the US-China dispute.

The Aussie market has improved for a second session on Friday but not enough to make up for the heavy selling mid-week. The ASX 200 index has suffered its worst weekly decline in two months, falling 2%. It was a better week for the Aussie dollar, which rose more than 1% over the week.

US sharemarkets were modestly higher in late trade on Thursday . OPEC+ are set to ratify a new production agreement on Friday. US President Trump said that trade discussions with China were going well and something could happen with tariffs on December 15. Economic data was positive with the trade deficit the lowest since May 2018 and new claims for unemployment insurance the lowest since April.
