Local shares have gotten off to a cautious start to the week with the ASX 200 edging higher by 1.5 points to 6740 ahead of a big week on the economic calendar. Resources and industrials helped lift the market most while the main weights came from financials, tech and consumer staples.

The ASX 200 has started the new trading week with solid gains - although the improvements have been trimmed thanks to weakness in the big four lenders. Elsewhere Resmed (RMD) has added to Friday’s gains thanks to broker upgrades, while Sims Metals Group (SMS) has lunged following the second earnings downgrade in less than 2 months.

Local shares have consolidated on early gains at lunch with the ASX 200 up by 0.7% at lunch.
