Pharmaceutical company, Mayne Pharma Group (MYX), reported a near quadrupling in Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) for the first half-year of 2016 to $19.2 million which was in line with consensus estimates.

Harvey Norman (HVN) posted a bigger than expected 30.6% lift in half year profit to $185.5 million. The result was driven by a 7.7% lift in sales in its core Australian market which accounted for ~80% of group sales.

US sharemarkets rose on Thursday with traders dissecting corporate earnings figures and economic data. Shares in Salesforce rose by 7.6% after reporting higher revenue and lifting its profit forecast. With an hour of trade to go, the Dow Jones was up by 124 points or 0.8%, the S&P 500 index was up by 0.6%, while the Nasdaq was higher by 8 points or 0.2%.
