US sharemarkets rose again on Wednesday. Shares in JP Morgan rose by 4.2% after earnings beat market forecasts. The mining and energy sectors were supported by stronger data on Chinese trade. The Dow Jones ended higher by 187 points or 1.1% after being up 197 points. The S&P 500 index rose by 1.0% while the Nasdaq gained 75 points or 1.6%.

The ASX 200 has again closed near the best level of the day, as energy, mining and financial stocks rallied. The index finished the session up 79 points or 1.6% to 5,054.

US sharemarkets rose on Tuesday. The energy sector led the way on hopes that an oil production freeze would go ahead. Banks rose ahead of earnings reports. JP Morgan will report on Wednesday. The Dow Jones ended higher by almost 165 points or 0.9% after being up 188 points. The S&P 500 index rose by 1.0% while the Nasdaq gained 39 points or 0.9%.

US sharemarkets softened from highs in afternoon trade. There was caution ahead of the start of earnings season (Alcoa earnings to be released after the close of trade). According to estimates from Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S, profits at S&P 500 companies are estimated to have fallen 6.9% in the first quarter compared with a year earlier.
