US sharemarkets rebounded on Monday, extending the zig-zag run over the past week. Berkshire Hathaway, led by legendary investor Warren Buffest, revealed it took a US$1 billion investment in Apple in the first quarter. Shares in Apple rose by 3.7%. Energy shares rose in response to a higher oil price. Nine of the 10 S&P 500 sectors rose. The Dow Jones rose by 175 points or 1.0% with the S&P 500 index up by 1.0% and the Nasdaq lifted almost 58 points or 1.2%.

US sharemarkets fell on Friday. The energy sector fell in line with lower oil prices. And retailers Nordstrom and JC Penney fell in response to lower-than-expected sales. The Dow Jones fell by 185 points or 1.1%. The S&P 500 index eased by 0.9% and the Nasdaq lost almost 20 points or 0.4%. Over the week the Dow Jones fell by 1.2%, the S&P 500 index lost 0.5% while the Nasdaq fell by 0.4%.
