US stocks recovered from early weakness on Thursday, although the leading indices failed to break into positive territorry. A firmer US dollar put downward pressure on commodity prices. SPI futures are point ting solid losses for the ASX 200 having shed 0.5% overnight.

 US sharemarkets advance overnight with the S&P 500 hitting a 10 month high. Mining stocks were well supported with a weaker US dollar contributing to higher commodity prices.

The ASX 200 has regained early loses to close down just 1 point. The market was helped by strong gains in the energy, consumer staples and consumer discretionary sectors.

The Australian sharemarket is losing some ground at lunch on Wednesday. Energy stocks are faring best while the miners are lower despite stronger commodity prices.
