US sharemarkets ended mixed on Tuesday. Oil prices rose, boosting the energy sector. But the healthcare sector eased. Shares in Biogen and Alexion fell after both reported failures of their drugs in clinical trials. The Dow Jones index finished higher by 18 points or 0.1% after being up 83 points at one stage. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.1%, getting within 1% of record highs at one stage. But the Nasdaq lost 7 points or 0.1%.

The ASX 200 has failed to hang on to earlier gains, finishing the session up 10 points or 0.2%. The Energy was the best performer, climbing 1.70%, while the Consumer Staples sector was hit the hardest, losing 1.04%.

The Reserve Bank has left the cash rate on hold at a record low 1.75% in June. Any future moves by the Central Bank will now be dependent on inflation date due in late July.

The local share market is extending yesterday’s gains - again being lifted by the Materials sector. Energy stocks are also outperforming.

US sharemarkets posted solid gains on Monday. Higher oil prices boosted energy stocks. And investors took the view that the Federal Reserve will take its time lifting interest rates. The Dow Jones index finished higher by 113 points or 0.6% after being up 142 points at one stage.The S&P 500 index was up by 0.5% while the Nasdaq gained 26 points or 0.5%.

The ASX 200 has closed up 0.8% - boosted by a 3.8% rally in the materials sector. Gold stock were the bright spot - with both Newcrest Mining & Northern Star recording double-digit gains.

US sharemarkets eased on Friday, led lower by financial stocks. The S&P financial sector lost 1.4% - biggest fall in about two months. And six of the 10 S&P sectors declined. The Dow Jones index fell by 32 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.3% while the Nasdaq lost almost 29 points or 0.6%. Over the week the Dow fell 0.4%, the S&P 500 was flat and the Nasdaq rose by 0.2%.
