US sharemarkets eased on Thursday from record levels. Disappointing earnings results from Intel and Southwest Airlines weighed on sentiment and prompted profit-taking. The Dow Jones index fell by 78 points or 0.4% from record highs after being down 125 points. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.4% from record highs while the Nasdaq fell by 16 points or 0.3%.

US sharemarkets were stronger on Wednesday with technology stocks leading the way. Shares in Microsoft rose by 5.3% in response to the latest earnings data. And tech stocks were up in Europe also. The Dow Jones index ended higher by 36 points or 0.2% to fresh record highs. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.4% to record highs while the Nasdaq lifted by almost 54 points or 1.1%.

After finishing a touch lower on Tuesday, the ASX 200 has rallied 0.7% on Wednesday. All sectors climbed higher, with the Materials sector the only exception, dropping 1.4%.
