The local share market has finished down 0.2% on Friday with almost all sectors losing ground. Financials, Materials and Consumer Staples were the exception. Over the week, the index slipped 0.1%.

The ASX 200 is down 0.4% at mid-session, weighed down by heavy falls in the healthcare sector. Industrials and Energy stocks are also being sold off.

The local share market has lost some early gains to close up 0.1% following the release of weaker than expected September employment data. Mining & energy stocks rallied, while consumer-related stocks were sold off.

Economy-wide spending lifted by 0.7 per cent in trend terms in September - the strongest gain in 17 months. The latest data shows that spending plans are not only healing but the gains are broad-based.

US sharemarkets rallied on Wednesday, its second straight day of gains. The rise in oil prices lifted energy stocks. The S&P energy sector rose 1.3%. Halliburton rose 4% after reporting better-than-expected third quarter results. Morgan Stanley lifted 2% after reporting stronger profits. The S&P financial sector lifted 0.8%. The biggest drag on the market was from Intel, down 6% after disappointing results.
