US sharemarkets ended largely flat on Friday. Investors digested generally better-than-forecast economic data and a speech by Fed Chair Janet Yellen. After releasing earnings, shares of JPMorgan ended down 0.3%, Citigroup rose by 0.3% and Wells Fargo was down 0.1%. After being up by 163 points in early trade, the Dow Jones index ended higher by 39 points or 0.2% with the S&P 500 index up by less than 0.1% while the Nasdaq rose by 0.8 points or 0.1%. Over the week the Dow fell 0.6%, the S&P 500 lost 1% and the Nasdaq fell by 1.5%.

Chinese exports plunged 10% in USD terms in September, much weaker than the 3.3% year on year decline economists had been expecting. Tom Piotrowski analyses the potential impact of the results on the Australian share market.
