US sharemarkets slumped in line with European and Asian markets on Wednesday. Investors fret that rising political uncertainty could serve to delay the economic plans of the US President, especially the plans to cut taxes and increase infrastructure spending. Financial stocks recorded some of the biggest declines with shares in Morgan Stanley down by 5.6% and Goldman Sachs lost 5.3%. Shares in Apple lost 3.4%. The so-called "fear gauge" - the CBOE volatility index or Vix - rose by 42% to 15.16. The Dow Jones ended at the day's lows, down by 373 points or 1.8%. The S&P 500 index fell by 1.8% while the Nasdaq lost 132 points or 2.2%.
