In Australia the week kicks off on Tuesday with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) releasing data on new vehicle sales. The industry data has already been released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and that showed that sales in June were the highest on record for a June month.
In the coming week investor attention will be dominated by the release of the Chinese economic growth figures

US sharemarkets posted more modest gains on Thursday. There is key economic data to be released on Friday together with earnings from Citigroup, Wells Fargo and JP Morgan. According to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S second quarter earnings from S&P 500 companies are expected to increase 7.8% from a year ago. Steel stocks rose around 4% after President Trump said that tariffs and quotas may be used to combat "dumping" of steel by some producers in the US. The Dow Jones rose by 21 points or 0.1% to record highs. The S&P 500 rose by 0.2% and the Nasdaq gained 13 points or 0.2%.
