The Aussie market fell for second successive session starting the month of June with a small decline. The ASX 200 was down as much as 44pts or 0.6% before recovering a touch to a loss of 19ts or 0.27% at 7,142. Resources stocks were a clear out-performer on commodity price strength.

The Aussie market is weaker for a second successive session with the ASX 200 falling close to 0.5% at midday. Losses have been across most of the market led by banks and healthcare declines. Energy & mining stocks are higher supported by stronger commodity prices.

European sharemarkets eased on Monday. The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell 0.5% from record highs. But over the month the STOXX 600 was up by 2.1% - the fourth straight month of gains. Both the German Dax index and French CAC40 index fell by 0.6%. Shares in Deutsche Bank fell by 1.3% with Reuters citing a Wall Street Journal report: "the US Federal Reserve told the German lender it was failing to address persistent shortcomings in its antimoney-laundering controls." Investors also noted that Germany's annual consumer price inflation lifted from 2.1% to 2.4% in May - the highest level since 2018 - and above the European Central Bank target.

The Aussie market has finished May with a slight drop as the ASX 200 fell 18pts or 0.25% to 7,161. The index had peaked to a new record high above 7,200 earlier in the session but losses for banks, the & energy stocks weighed. The benchmark index still rose 1.93% in May, lifting for an 8th month in a row.

Shares of Salesforce jumped 5.4% after it raised its full-year profit forecasts. But Boeing shares fell 1.5% after the US aviation regulator confirmed the plane maker halted deliveries of its 787 Dreamliners. The Dow Jones index rose by 65 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index lifted 0.1%. And the Nasdaq index gained 12 points or 0.1%. Over the week the Dow rose 0.9%; the S&P 500 added 1.2%; and the Nasdaq jumped 2.1%.For the month of May, the Dow added 1.9%; the S&P 500 lifted 0.6%, but the Nasdaq fell 1.5%.
