The S&P500 and Nasdaq indexes hit fresh all-time highs. US and China officials reaffirmed their commitment to the 'Phase One' trade deal. Moderna said it's near a deal to supply 80 million vaccine doses to the EU. Shares of Facebook (+3.5%) hit record highs after unveiling a series of tools designed to expand shopping on its platform. But Apple shares retreated 0.8% ahead of its 4-to-1 stock split. Shares of electronics retailer Best Buy fell 4% after warning of a slowdown in sales in the third quarter. The Dow Jones index fell by 60 points or 0.2%. But the S&P500 index lifted 0.4% and the Nasdaq index gained 86 points or 0.8% -both record closes.

The ASX 200 hit 5-month highs early on Tuesday but couldn’t maintain those levels, still the index rose 32 points or 0.5% to 6,161 as banks and Afterpay (APT) were the major contributors to the broader improvements. Qantas also rose as it plans to cut another 2,500 jobs.

Ansell (ANN), maker of protective gear and solutions, reported an overall improved performance in FY20. Sales lifted by 7.7%, or 9.3% in constant currency, to US$1.6 billion. Both EBIT and profit rose for the year. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, ANN has several products highly sought after as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

US sharemarkets lifted on Monday in response to news on advances in the war against the coronavirus. But dampening sentiment was the stalled talks by US Congress on a fresh aid package for the jobless. Shares in Apple rose 1.2% to record highs ahead of a stock split. The Dow Jones index rose by 378 points or 1.4%. The S&P500 index lifted 1.0% to record highs. And the Nasdaq index gained 68 points or 0.6% to a record closing high.

Super Retail Group (SUL) reported a lift in sales over the past financial year to $2.8 billion, a gain of 4.2%. Online sales also received a solid boost from the change in spending behaviour by consumers due to the pandemic with online sales up 44% to $290.5 million. Normalised earnings and profits were slightly higher but reported NPAT fell 20%.
