US sharemarkets hit record highs on Monday. Upbeat Chinese economic data and strong US homebuilder data propelled shares higher. An hour before the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was up by around 130 points or 0.5%.

The Aussie sharemarket jumped by 1.6% on Monday thanks to the US and China reaching a trade deal, the government’s MYEFO and better China data.

The local market has kicked off the final full trading week of 2019 in fine form with the ASX 200 jumping 1.2% in the first few hours of trade. It was a flat lead from Wall St even with a phase one agreement between the US & China. Every sector is advancing with financials, health & consumer discretionary among the most improved.

US sharemarkets eked out modest gains but still hit record highs during the session as trade tensions eased. The US and China announced a "phase one" trade agreement on Friday

US-China trade relations will continue to dominate global markets for the coming week while plenty of economic releases here and abroad will keep investors interested in the global economic story. It will also be the last of the AGM’s which will include NAB, ANZ & WOW.

Investors have cheered on US-China trade progress & the UK election result with the ASX 200 lifting close to 0.5% for the day & the week. Financials, materials contributed most to improvements while defensives such as gold producers fell most.
