Losses for some heavyweight banks and miners were unable to push the broader market lower for Monday’s session. The ASX 200 still managed to rally 48 points or 0.72% to 6772.5, just over 100 points from all-time highs. Gains were rather broad based with only the materials sector in the red on a fall in iron ore. Healthcare stocks were the most improved, CSL Ltd (CSL),our largest listed health name lifted 3.5%.

The local market is off to a firmer start following another record close for Wall St as investors digest US-China trade developments. The ASX 200 is roughly 30 points or 0.5% higher with gains rather broad based to start the week. The IT, health and industrials are helping drive gains while miners are among the weights with iron slumping 3.2%. ANZ Bank and Macquarie Group (MQG) are also lower trading ex-dividend.

All three major indices rose and hit record highs in the U.S. on Friday. Optimism of a U.S. - China trade deal, solid results from Disney and a slight improvement in consumer confidence helped.

The Australian sharemarket bounced off intraday lows to finish flat on Friday. Equities still managed to lift over the week. James Hardie and Xero shares continued to lift following better profit results.

The Aussie sharemarket is mostly flat despite a choppy start to Friday trading. The ASX 200 is little changed after investors digest recent headlines around US-China trade and the potential rollback of tariffs. Despite no official confirmation, this has seen a sell-off in safe havens with local gold producers among the major decliners. Energy, financials and IT stocks have been leading improvements.
